As part of efforts to contain the recent spate of suicide bombings carried out in the Far North Region by militants of the Islamic State of West Africa (the defunct Boko Haram), members of the Cameroon National Council of Crime Experts, CNCCE, met in Yaounde on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. The objective was to proffer solutions to the attacks using technical and scientific means drawn from the forensic experts’ wealth of experience in combating money laundering, cyber criminality, contraband trade and Customs fraud in the country.

Opening the meeting, the President, Barrister Olinga Tsuil Francis Stève, said the recent wave of suicide bomb attacks call for a change of strategy, offering the services of his members to boost the fight against the terrorists. Speakers at the event, all forensic experts trained in Western institutions, underscored the fact that for the war against terrorism to be successful, there is need to infiltrate militant ranks to understand the Improvised Explosive Devices they use, their manufacturers, the sources of their funding, accomplices, etc.

Such an approach, the speakers insisted, will help unravel the current mystery behind the attacks and forestall future occurrences. At the end, the CNCCE handed over recommendations on fighting terrorism to a representative of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation for forwarding to President Paul Biya. They also pledged to go into action against the terrorists if given the green light by the Head of State.
