The Cameroon General Certificate of Education Examination Board, CGCEB, on Friday, July 29, 2016, released its 22nd yearly results. This year’s results were made public following the approval of the Minister of Secondary Education upon the presentation of the year’s work by the CGCE Board Registrar, Humphrey Ekema Monono.

The GCE Board put the overall performance of the GCE Advanced Level (General Education) at 66.52 per cent. This is a 6.11 per cent increase as compared to 2015. In real terms, 46,714 candidates registered, 43,937 effectively sat, 2,777 were absent and 29,226 passed, giving an overall 66.52 per cent in 2016. Meanwhile, more candidates registered for the Advanced Level last year (48,142), more sat (48,058), less were absent (84), and less were successful (29,031), giving 60.41 per cent passes in 2015.

The GCE Advanced Level results showed that denominational schools topped the chart with 90.40 per cent. State-run schools came second with 74.90 per cent, non-denominational or (lay private schools) came third with 71.38 per cent and external candidates last with 38.26 per cent. The GCE Ordinary Level scored 62.17 per cent this year, gaining a 17.24 percentage increase over 2015. Some 18 special need candidates registered for the GCE Ordinary Level this year, 15 wrote and only four passed, giving 26.67 per cent.

Concerning Technical Education, the GCE Technical Advanced Level had 54.33 per cent this year, producing 2,681 passes. Meanwhile, the GCE Technical Ordinary Level scored 40.12 per cent for 3,613 successful candidates. Humphrey Ekema Monono announced that results of some examination centres were withheld for further investigations.

The centres, he explained, were suspected of collusion and other attitudes bordering on disorder. He emphasised that the Board’s slogan of “Measuring learning with honesty,” must at all times prevail in its activities.

Overall, 12 schools had 100 per cent scores in the GCE Advanced Level, while 17 schools scored 100 per cent in the GCE Ordinary Level. The GCE Board advised candidates to check their results on the Orange and Nexttel mobile telephone networks or listen to radio.
