A Yaounde-based anti-terrorism citizen’s organisation dubbed Collectif “Unis pour le Cameroun” made up mainly of journalists, has launched a new sensitisation campaign to educate denizens of the danger of terrorism attacks by the islamist sect Boko Haram. The campaigned which started yesterday August 3, 2015 in Yaounde according to the organisers, is aimed at nipping in the bud the new suicide-bombing strategy of the Boko Haram attacks in the Far North Region.

According to a member of the organisation, Raoul Simplice Minlo, the principal objective of the campaign is to draw the attention of all Cameroonians that the terrorism threat is not only the problem of the Far North region but also Cameroon as a whole. “It is therefore to sensitise public opinion that the danger is within us and so we have to be alert and vigilant,” Minlo told Cameroon Tribune. The campaign that has started in Yaounde will be extended to other parts of the country. Over 8000 flyers and 2000 automobile stickers were distributed in Yaounde as part of the sensitisation campaign that kick-off at 11 am yesterday at the Bois St. Anastasie -Warda Junction moving through the Central Regional Judicial Police, the Central Market street to the Central Post office roundabout in the heart of the capital city before making the final stopover for the day at the Mvan bus station. Flyers and stickers bearing messages such as “stop terrorism; reston unis dans l’epreuve”, were distributed along the major streets of Yaounde but organisers say other means of communication will be used to effectively drive the message to all Cameroonians during the nationwide campaign. Emphasis is placed on vigilance and collaboration with the defence and security forces by dialling free of charge 1500 to denounce suspected persons.
