Sécurité Nord du Bénin : attaque meurtrière contre un poste de police aux portes du Sahel

Dans la nuit du 6 au 7 juin, des hommes armés ont lancé une attaque sanglante contre un poste de police situé près du parc national de la Pendjari, tout près de la frontière avec le Burkina Faso. Le bilan est lourd : trois militaires et deux policiers tués, selon les informations rapportées par Radio France Internationale (RFI).

Le secteur, qui jouxte les zones instables du Sahel, est devenu un point de passage stratégique pour les groupes terroristes. Ces derniers utilisent les réserves naturelles comme la Pendjari pour s’infiltrer progressivement vers le sud, avec en ligne de mire l’océan Atlantique.

Cette attaque intervient dans un contexte de réorganisation sécuritaire. En effet, le colonel André Dokoui Fofo vient d’être nommé à la tête de l’opération antiterroriste dans le nord du Bénin, en remplacement d’un commandant resté moins d’un an en fonction. Cette transition à la tête de la lutte antiterroriste coïncide avec une recrudescence d’attaques contre les forces de sécurité béninoises.

Depuis janvier, les attaques se multiplient dans la région : 28 militaires tués en début d’année, et 58 autres tombés à la mi-avril. Le Bénin, pays longtemps épargné par les violences djihadistes, se trouve désormais sur une ligne de front invisible mais bien réelle.

L’évolution de la menace au Bénin est un signal d’alarme pour toute la sous-région. Si les groupes extrémistes atteignent le golfe de Guinée, c’est toute l’architecture sécuritaire ouest-africaine qui devra être redéfinie.

Northern Benin is once again in mourning after a deadly assault on a police post near the Pendjari National Park, which borders Burkina Faso. According to Radio France Internationale (RFI), the attack claimed the lives of three soldiers and two police officers.

Terrorist groups operating in the Sahel have increasingly used nature reserves like Pendjari to infiltrate southern territories, seeking a path to the Atlantic Ocean.

The incident coincides with a leadership change in Benin’s counterterrorism operations. Colonel André Dokoui Fofo was recently appointed as the new commander, replacing his predecessor who held the position for less than a year.

This deadly event adds to a worrying trend: 28 soldiers were killed in January and 58 more in mid-April. Once seen as a haven of stability, Benin now faces a growing jihadist threat creeping in from the north.

The southward spread of extremist violence is ringing alarm bells across West Africa. If the Atlantic coast becomes accessible to terrorist networks, it could reshape the region’s entire security landscape.
