The 22 athletes were selected on Wednesday July 25, 2018 at the end of the 57th edition of the national athletics championship that took place in Yaounde report CT.

Athletes who will represent the country in the Senior African Athletics championship in Assaba Nigeria have been chosen. The 22 athletes (men and women) were selected on Wednesday July 25, 2018 at the end of the 57th edition of the national athletics championship that took place in Yaounde.

Prominent on the list of athletes selected for the championship are names like the 2018 Commonwealth bronze medallist, Marcel Mayack II for the long jump and triple jump, and Auriol Dongmo (Short put) and Sandrine Mbumi in the women’s triple jump. The national championship was an opportunity to select athletes that will represent the country in the African championship.

The athletes competed in several disciplines in the track and field. In the 100m men’s race Esseme Emmanuel Alobwede from (CMSP) was the fastest finishing the race in 10”68. In the women’s 100m Abessolo Bivina (FAP) was the first in 11”77. In the women’s 10,000m, Nguelifack Stéphanie (INJS) finished the race in 37’47”50.

In the men’s 10,000m Jude Lekha (FAP) was the first in 31’45”17. In the women’s 10km walk, Maffokem France (AY) was the first in 1h 01’10. In the men’s 20km walk, Nzossie Hervé Duclair (FAP) was the best in 1h40’2. In the women’s long jump, Kouoche Kevine was the first after jumping a distance of 5m27.

In the men’s long jump Yinra Appolinaire jumped a distance of 7m38. In the men’s triple jump Mayack Marcel (INJS) was the first with a jump of 15m19. In the men’s high jump Mayack Marcel (INJS) was the first with a jump of 2m00. In the women’s high jump Kouoche Kevine (NZ) jumped a distance of 1m65. In the men’s javelin throws Chamaken Claude (FAP) threw a distance of 62m15. In the women’s javelin throw Metsadong Jolivette (AIA) 40m04.

In the men’s shot put Takougoum Kuitche Billy (INJS) threw a distance of 16m46. In the women’s shot put Angounougou Sanama Edwige (FAP) threw a distance of 45m05. In the men’s discuss Tokougoum Kuitche Billy (INJS) threw a distance of 46m55 and in the women’s discuss Angounougou Sanama Edwige threw a distance of 45m05.

Meanwhile, the athletes that have been selected for the African championship are expected to continue training in Yaounde while waiting for their departure to Assaba.
