Boosted by the 6-0 victory over Ecuador in their first outing at the 2015 Women’s world cup in Canada, the Indomitable Lionesses are gunning for nothing short of victory against the defending champions, Japan in their second group game on Saturday, a victory which will be synonymous to qualification for the second round.
“We are going to take match after match”, said team captain, Christine Manie. According to the president of the feminine football commission at Fecafoot, Celine Eko, the Lionesses were touched by the jubilation of Cameroonians after their victory against Ecuador and are determined to give the country honour by qualifying for the knock-out stage of the tournament. They have so far received congratulatory messages from Patrick Mboma and Samuel Eto’o Fils. In a related development, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Adoum Garoua and the president of the Normalisation committee of Fecafoot, Joseph Owona are in Canada to encourage the girls.
It is worthy to note that the Lionesses in their maiden participation at the world cup, created history by obtaining the best results ever recorded by a national football selection in an international competition. According to the team press officer, Leocardia Bongben, the team is back to business, training twice a day at the Empire South under a cheerful mood cracking jokes and fondling with each other. There was a special birthday song for Gaëlle Enganamouit whose birth day coincidentally fell on June 9th, the day after she scores her first hat-trick and emerged the lady of the match.
