The Boko Haram militants have multiplied attacks in Nigeria and its neighbours with the latest incident being the killing of 43 people in four villages near Monguno in Borno State, Gulf Times reported, further stating the attacks took place on Friday, July 10, 2015 but reports have just started emerging due to the remote nature of the area.
Sheriff Kulo, a resident of Kilwa village, said militant fighters stormed his village late on Friday night, killing residents before stealing food and cattle as well as burning down homes. “In Kilwa alone, they killed seven people, including the village head and left one seriously injured with a fracture on his leg,” Gulf Times further quoted him as saying.“They then proceeded to Gwollam, Misala and Magaram, where they did the same thing. In all they killed 43.
They opened fire on residents and in some cases they used knives to slaughter their victims,” Sheriff Kulo is quoted as telling news agencies in Maiduguri, where he fled to raise the alarm.
Reports say there has not been an independent corroboration of the death toll but the Borno State Police Commissioner, Aderemi Padokun, is quoted as saying that, “From what we heard, the gunmen raided these villages. They shot dead their victims and in some cases slit their throats. They also carted away foodstuffs and livestock. We don’t have details of the actual number of people killed in the attack but I can confirm it happened.”
Boko Haram militants have also killed six people in Tetewa Island of Lake Chad, about 80 km north of Chad's capital N'Djamena and near the Nigerian border, BBC cited local security sources as saying. Reports say bombings and shootings by Boko Haram militants have killed at least 80 people in Chad, which is a key player in the regional offensive against the terrorist group based in Nigeria. News agency reports say that since Nigeria’s new President Muhammadu Buhari came to power on May 29, 2015, more than 625 people have been killed by Boko Haram militants in the country.
